宗勉出生於昭和2年（1927年），為其父宗正光的門人，是全日本刀匠會會員。曾獲得文化廳長官獎、薰山獎等多項獎項，並於1990年（平成2年，當時63歲）獲得「無鑑查」認定。居住於福岡市博多區山王。
本作為宗勉與其弟子共同製作的合作刀，屬於相傳備前風的無上刀品！
